PNW District Silver Honor Medal Recipient
Announced at Vancouver District Convention

Deborah Erickson, PNW District Prizes and Awards Chair, announced at the Vancouver Convention Business Meeting June 26 that Bruce Lind of Tacoma is the Silver Honor Medal recipient for 2004.

Bruce has been a strong supporter of the district for many years. He is a Consulting Rosarian, Horticulture, and Arrangement Judge. Here are a few of his other accomplishments:

As a member of the National Horticultural Judges Committee, he contributed to the latest revision of the Guidelines for Judging Roses.
He is a member of the Young Rosarians of America National Committee which aids in the development of rosarians at an early age. The Tacoma Rose Society, of which he is a member, has a very viable Junior Program which Bruce has aided and supported since its inception.
He has written numerous articles for publication in ARS literature at the Local, District and National level.
He is Past Assistant District Director, District Chair of Judges, and currently Co-Chair of Horticulture Judges.
He has been a member of the Tacoma Rose Society for more than 25 years and has held most every office, serving as President on two occasions in 1980 and 1993. He is the current co-editor of their newsletter along with his wife, Barbara.

Bruce has always been there to help and promote. His local society and district have benefited from his willingness to work and his knowledge of the rose and rose culture.

As the District Horticulture Judges Chair he organized, arranged for facilities and staff, and conducted several seminars for the training of new apprentice judges that are needed in our District. He has conducted numerous audits and classes for the periodic update required of all judges. Bruce has been most helpful to rose show chairman throughout the PNW, assisting them in securing the services of judges for their rose shows.

As a member of the PNW Speaker’s Bureau, he has traveled to other societies in the district, as well as garden clubs and other horticultural gatherings, to present programs and hands-on demonstrations of all facets of rose care and exhibiting for the benefit of their members.
